Abstract

As a slow-growing lesion, vertebral hemangioma is one of the most common benign tumors of the spine. Since most vertebral hemangiomas are asymptomatic, management of them is typically conservative. However, in cases of painful and/or aggressive vertebral hemangioma, interventions are required for treatment including vertebroplasty or balloon kyphoplasty. Herein are two cases of symptomatic vertebral hemangioma in which percutaneous osteoplasty was performed safely and successfully under real-time monitoring of C-arm fl uoroscopy alone. Percutaneous osteoplasty is a modifi ed technique of balloon kyphoplasty without balloon infl ation. Percutaneous osteoplasty may be useful for treatment of symptomatic vertebral hemangioma, and could decrease the risk of cement leakage over percutaneous vertebroplasty because of using low-pressure administration of high viscose cement.
